Carolyn Harris Stevens, age 88, of Smithfield passed away at her home on March 19, 2018 surrounded by her family. Born in Lexington, NC on December 1, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Van James and Ruth Broadway Harris. Her husband was the late Needham Sloan Stevens, Jr.. Mrs. Stevens has been a member of First Baptist Church in Smithfield for 60 years. She loved her church, shopping, playing Bridge and crossword puzzles. She spent many hours making dresses for needy families and quilting. She was always concerned for others.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 21, at 2:00 PM in First Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Colbert and Rev. Bryan Harris officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 20, from 6 to 8 PM.
Surviving are her sons, Mike Stevens and wife Neppie, Tim Stevens and wife Anita, David Stevens and wife Betsy, all of Smithfield; her brother Glenn Max Harris and wife Delores of Concord; her grandchildren, Ellie Webb and Ben of Mt. Airy, Sloan Stevens and Kelsey of Smithfield, Allison Price and Sam of Winterville, Olivia Johnson and Henry of Greenville, Whitley Stevens, Carrie Stevens, and John Stevens of Smithfield, and her great grandchildren, Kate and Eve Webb, Trey Stevens and Riley Price.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 202 S., 4th St, Smithfield, NC 27577 or the SECU Hospice House, PO Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577 with checks made payable to Johnston Health Foundation.
