Catherine Phillips Haynes

    Catherine Phillips Haynes of Sims went to be with the Lord on November 20th, after a five year battle with ovarian cancer.

    Catherine was born January 8, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Elro and Eloise Phillips of the Corbett Hatcher community outside of Selma, NC. Catherine graduated from Selma High School and then became the wife of the late Rex Haynes of Rock Ridge, NC. They were married for fifty years before he died in 2003. After helping Rex farm she went to work at the Devil Dog in Zebulon and later retired from Johnson and Johnson in Kenly after twenty years. She was a charter member of Calvary Free Will Baptist Church of Kenly where she served on numerous committees and taught the children in Sunday School. She loved her Graduation class of 1952 and would help plan annual luncheons so they could meet and eat. Her hobbies included yard sale shopping, sewing, quilting, scrap booking, and photography.

    The family will receive friends on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. A service will follow in the chapel of Kenly Funeral Service with the Rev. James Murray officiating.

    Catherine is survived by her sister, Joy Grady Hardee (Tommy) of Creedmoor, a brother, Glenn Phillips (Fiancée Cindy) of Cary, a sister- in- law Faye Phillips of Selma, and a special nephew Vernon Creech (Mary) of Zebulon.

    In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Edmundson of Smithfield, Marcie Ricks of Kenly and brother Elmore Phillips of Selma.

    In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Free Will Baptist Church, 9708 Hawley Road, Kenly NC, 27542.
