Clayton – Reverend Charles Amos Summerlin, age 76, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 22, 2021, in his home in Clayton. He was born in Wilson County on November 27, 1944, to the late Amos Summerlin and Frances Summerlin Stanley. He grew up in Elm City, NC and he graduated from Elm City High School. He was the owner of Charles Summerlin Maintenance, an apartment maintenance and repair business for over thirty years. He had a calling for ministry which began with his love for Southern Gospel Music. Later, he pursued his true calling as a Baptist minister, receiving multiple degrees in ministry and Bible Studies. He pastored churches in Louisburg and Elm City for many years. He was very passionate about spreading the love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to everyone he came in contact with as well as wanting everyone to know and accept the Plan of Salvation.
Charles was devoted to his wife, Alice and his four daughters. He was quick to offer to them love, unsolicited advice, repair work, jokes and one-liners, as well as his constant rendition of any George Jones song. He enjoyed camping trips to the NC mountains, riding horses, attending grandchildren’s sporting events, watching westerns on TV, Bojangles daily, and singing hymns on the front porch.
