Selma – Charles Ernest Hester, Sr., age 83, former Mayor of the Town of Selma, died Monday, February 25, 2019 in Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston. Born August 19, 1935 in Guilford County he was a son of the late Marion and Zylpha Peddycord Hester. Charles was a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Marine Corp, where he receive many accolades throughout his career. He was a member of Selma Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019 in Selma Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Combs officiating. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Thursday just prior to the service.
Surviving are his wife Barbetta Hester; sons, Charles E. Hester, Jr. of Clayton and Ron Hester and wife Heidi of Selma; daughters, Missy Dayoub of Canton, GA; brother, Gary Hester of Greensboro; sister, Jeanette Combs of Roanoke, VA; and grandchildren, Meredith Dayoub, Julia Dayoub, Holden Dayoub, and Caroline Dayoub.
