Smithfield – Charles Lemuel “Charlie” Jones, age 88, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Born March 8, 1928 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Dock P. and Launa Phillips Jones. He was preceded in death by two wives, Lillie M. “Bill” Jones and Retha Jones; daughter, Vicki Jones Mason; and many brothers and sisters. Charlie was retired from the United States Army after over 25 years of service. He was a member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in Micro and the American Legion Post 141 in Selma.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Whitley Jones of the home; sons, Randy Jones of Garner and Jerry Robertson of Garner; daughters, Linda Jones Shaw of Clayton, Diane Jones Messer and husband Daniel of Selma, Cathy Jones Ennis and husband Lance of Louisburg, and Dixie West Wilson and husband Jimmy of Selma; stepson, Bob Jones and wife Brenda of Smithfield; stepdaughters, Sue Rizoti and husband Robert of Wilkesboro and Jan Barnes and husband Will of Smithfield; brother, George H. Jones of Virginia; sisters, Nancy Jones Smith of Charlotte and Lorrain Jones Davis of Kenly; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty three great grandchildren.
