Charles “Charlie” Benjamin Neighbors, age 62, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina due to complications from COVID-19.
A memorial service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the Amplify Church, 2884 NC Hwy 42 W., Willow Springs, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the church, prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date.
He was born September 25, 1958 in Asheville, North Carolina to the late Reverend George Neighbors and the late Jeannette Fowler Neighbors.
Charlie was employed with Grifols in Clayton for 27 years. He enjoyed playing softball, coaching youth league Upward basketball and for many years played trumpet in the church orchestra. Charlie would watch any UNC sporting event on tv, even making everybody watch UNC lacrosse. But his love was for Carolina basketball and football, having season tickets for many years. He stayed in close touch with his brothers and sisters who were out of state and had many vacations, holidays and tee times with his brothers-in-law in state and batting practice with Hunter. But, Charlie definitely was a Girl Dad, attending decades worth of dance recitals and competitions, always available for his girls.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Melinda Laughter Neighbors; his children, Amanda Davis (Tim), Lauren Neighbors, and Victoria Neighbors; grandson, Hunter Davis; brothers and sisters, Michael Neighbors of Virginia, Rodney Neighbors of Tennessee, Sherri Johnson (Richard) of Kentucky, and Karen Jarratt (Michael) of Tennessee; 10 nieces and nephews; and 6 great nieces and nephews.
