Chase was born on August 9, 1994 in Johnston County. He received his Bachelor’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill on May 8, 2016 in Political Science. Chase received his Master’s degree in May of 2021 from Duke-Sanford School of Public Policy and did research for higher education with American Institute for Research.
Surviving include his mother, Wendy Upchurch and fiancé, Scott Rio of Smithfield; father, Larry Johnson and fiancé, Eva Santini of Chapel Hill; sister and brother, Sara Upchurch and Channing Rio both of Smithfield; maternal grandparents, Roger Allen and wife, Teresa of Four Oaks; paternal grandparents, Laurence Johnson, Sr. of Raleigh, Carmen Miranda of Georgia; abueltia, Aida Santini of Fayetteville; several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
