    Selma – Clarence Vernon Bailey Jr., affectionately known as “CV”, passed away Thursday January 28, 2021 at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh. He was born in Johnston County on December 5, 1938 to the late Clarence Vernon and Letha Eason Bailey. A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday January 31, 2021 at 3 PM in Selma Memorial Gardens. He is survived by wife of 58 years, Alice Stanley Bailey of Selma; son, Neal Bailey and wife Melissa of Clayton; daughter, Kim Ward and husband Jeff of Selma; sister, Sally Bailey of Selma; grandchildren, Emily Ward, Sara Ward, Abby Guzzo, Landon Hester; great grandson, Leo Gonzalez; many nieces and nephews. Mr. CV attended Temple Church in Selma and Victory Church in Raleigh. After many years in the insurance business he retired and became a coach and teacher for Johnston Christian Academy, Community Christian, and many years as a coach for the town of Selma parks and recreation department and a member of the Al Batten and the Bluegrass Reunion for nearly 30 years. Mr. CV enjoyed quail hunting, playing bluegrass music, and was an avid UNC Tar heels fan. He also had a passion for mentoring and guiding the young people he came across over the years through coaching and teaching.
