Danita Garner Johnson was born January 5, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois to Christine
Garner and Walter Randle, Sr. Danita was the third child born to her mother,
Christine, although she was one of many siblings.
Danita departed this life on Sunday, August 16, 2020, with her son Steffan by her side. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Randle, Sr, Step-Father, Eddie Lee Loyd,
Sr.; Brothers, Michael Garner, Reynold Randle, and Sylvester Randle; Sisters, Edith
Parks, Darnette Garner, Melody Garner, Taronte Nicole Loyd, and great-nephew,
Brandon Michael Rhodes.
Danita lived a fulfilling life as a mother, sister, wife, friend, prophetess, and entrepreneur
She leaves to cherish her memory; husband, Herbert Johnson (Durham, NC), son
Steffan Charles Williams (Las Vegas, NV), step-daughter Jina Johnson (Fort Lee, NJ), her mother Christine Loyd Massie (Collinsville, IL), 4 Brothers: Eddie Lee Loyd, Jr., Otis Randle, Bennie Randle, Sr., and
Muhaiman Shamsuddin, 9 sisters: LaTunya Loyd, Bertha Loyd, Velma Lloyd, Cheryl
Garner, Dornetta Foster, Gail Randle, Mattie Apperton, Vera Douthard, Rosemary
Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other family-in-law who
she loved, honored, and served in life.
While in middle school, Danita attended Barbizon Modeling School in the John
Hancock Center and participated in many fashion shows throughout her teen and
young adult years. She also joined the modern dance troupe at Paul-Robeson High
School (Francis Parker) where she traveled across the City of Chicago, competing in
and winning dance competitions.
After graduating from Paul Robeson High School in 1978, Danita attended Lewis
University in Joliet, Illinois. She held a few sales clerk jobs during and after high
school, but always knew she wanted to do more with her life. She enrolled in the
Dawson Career Training Center in Chicago and learned office skills and technology,
after which she started working for the Social Security Administration, and
eventually moved into an Executive Assistant role to Chief of Staff at St. Bernard
Hospital, and as Medical Secretary at Northwestern University Medical Center before
leaving Chicago for Los Angeles.
While living in Los Angeles, Danita worked as Medical Secretary at Cedars-Sinai
Hospital and at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Center before becoming Office
Administrator at FAME Renaissance, a community development organization
created by First AME Church after the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles. From there,
Danita worked as an Executive Assistant at Kendall Rose Public Relations, where
their clientele was predominantly politicians and high-profile individuals in
the Los Angeles business community.
It was during this time that Danita began her journey into ministry and public
service. She left Kendall Rose and started her own public relations agency, PBS
Public Relations, where her clientele included clergy and political candidates.
During this time, she also worked on LA City Councilman Nate Holden’s re-election
campaign.
Danita moved to northern California where she held a seat on the Marin County
Women’s Commission to advocate for women’s equality. Answering the call to full-
time ministry, Prophetess Danita’s ministry flourished in Marin
County as she became a member of a community choir and ministered at various
churches in the area. However, God had worked for her in other parts of the country.
After moving to Selma, North Carolina, Danita met and married Herbert Johnson. The two soon relocated to Durham, NC, and began multiple businesses, political, and volunteer endeavors.
Prophetess Danita also started New Voices
International Outreach Ministries, which served as an outlet for intercessory prayer
and making provisions for underserved communities. While in Durham, she also founded The Executive Consulting Public Relations Group.
Danita continued her studies at North Carolina Central University where she earned a dual degree in Public Administration and Political Science. During these studies, she was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society and served as a political intern in
Washington, DC. After graduation, she temporarily relocated to Rockville, MD
securing a position as Transportation Scheduling Manager. While in Rockville, she
co-founded the Multi-Cultural Workers Forum, which serves as a voice of justice for
those without by building strategies of policy and labor law awareness.
Upon fulfilling her mission in Rockville, Danita took up residence in her second
home in Chicago to serve as a Freedom of Information Act Officer at Headquarters of the
Chicago Police Department. When she became ill, her husband Herbert joined her in Chicago
to care for her throughout her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Danita Johnson to the non-profit organization, Feed My Sheep of Durham, North Carolina.
