    Kenly – David Dalton Smith, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Duke University Hospital in Durham. He was born on October 18, 1956, in Johnston County to Vernon and Janice Smith. He is preceded in death by his father Vernon Smith. David was a member of Carters Chapel Church in Selma and loved all of his church family. He was a great carpenter and loved working with wood. He loved all his tools he had as well as shopping for tools at Lowes. David loved joking around with everyone and he never met a stranger, he was strong-willed and encouraging.  He had a great love for all the people at Carters Chapel, they were more than his friends they were his family. He was a jack of all trades and a master of none. He was a loving husband, dad, granddad, and he loved his dog Ziva.

    A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021, at Carters Chapel Church Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 31, 2021, from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Friends and family will be able to pay their respects on Saturday, January 30, 2021, from 8:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. the family will not be present during this time.

    He is survived by his wife of 42 years Mrs. Nina Lane Smith, mother, Janice Smith, daughters, Cumi Stevens (husband Jeff) of Kenly, Samantha Batton (husband Joe) of Kenly, Tamara McDaris (husband Matt) of Pine Level, Ariel “Pug Nickel” Smith (wife Ashley Penegar) of Kenly, grandchildren, Christina Stevens, Tiffany Stevens, Dustin Carey, Joe Carey, Gracie McDaris, Khaleesi McDaris, Madison Batton, MaKenzie Batton, Greyson Batton, great grandchildren, DeAnthony Bell and Ky’ree Bell, mother-in-law, Mary Ann Lane, brother, Robert Smith (wife Valerie) of Selma, sister Renee Tant (husband Jimmy) of Smithfield, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

    In lieu of flowers donations can be made toward the funeral bill at Parrish Funeral Home Inc.
