David Leon Grantham

    David Leon Grantham was the fourth child of the late David R. and Annie Louise Grantham. David was born on November 24, 1960 in Smithfield, NC. He departed this life on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.
    David attended Smithfield-Selma High in Smithfield, NC. He graduated with his Associates Degree from Nova Community College in Woodbridge, VA. He served in the US Army from 1979 to 1992.
    David was married to the love of his life, Angela D. Grantham, whom he affectionately called “Ang” for over forty years. They were blessed with one son, David Leon Grantham, II and one granddaughter, Dajah Angela Grantham, who was the apple of her “Pop Pop’s” eye.
    David worked as an ITT specialist, Sr. F-5 network engineer and was continuing his education at ECPI University in Manassas, VA.
    David came to know the Lord as his personal Savior while serving in the military in Germany in 1982. His favorite scripture was Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication, let your requests be made known to God.
    David was a member at First Mount Zion Baptist Church for over thirty-three years in Dumfries, VA, where he served as a leader of the Married Couples Ministry as well as other ministries.
    Those who remain to cherish fond memories of David are his wife, Angela D. Grantham of the home; his son, David L. Grantham of Manassas, VA; his granddaughter, Dajah A. Grantham of Highland Springs, VA; two brothers, Royal E. Grantham (Yvette) of Louisburg, NC, and Donald R. Grantham of Durham, NC; three sisters, Marilyn Grantham of Pine Level, NC, Charlene Stevens (Bill) of Clayton, NC and Mary Jane Williams of Selma, NC; two uncles, John Grantham of Greenbelt, MD and Elijah Grantham of Hyattsville, MD; one aunt, Jane Penny (Nathaniel) of Selma, NC and a host of family and friends
    David had a grandfather named David John. He had a father named David Royal. His son is David the fourth. Our dearly departed David Leon is with God, playing on his harp.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, NC with the Rev. Gary Thompson officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. just prior to the service.
