David Ray Lee, of Blountville TN, formally of Four Oaks, peacefully passed away on Thursday evening, August 10, 2017 at Mountain Home VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN surrounded by family and friends. Ray was 79 years old.
Ray, also known as “Daddy” and “Papaw” to his family, was born November 18, 1937 in Smithfield, NC. Ray was a US Army veteran having been a paratrooper and member of the 82nd Airborne Division and was stationed at Fort Bragg NC, Fort Benning GA, with active military service spent in Germany and Korea. After leaving the military, Ray retired as a telecommunications and data networking engineer for Nortel Networks Corporation, formally known as Northern Telecom.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lou and Roby Lee of Four Oaks, his wife, Joyce Parrish Lee formally of Four Oaks, and his brother, Donnie Lee of Smithfield, NC.
David and Joyce were the parents of five children: Dan Lee of Nashville, TN; Teresa Lee Mains, Bluff City, TN; Brookie Lee Davenport, Blountville, TN; David Edward Lee, Murrieta, CA; and Greg Lee of Des Moines, Iowa. He was also the grandfather and great-grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
David is also thankful for his close buddy and best friend, Jimmy Mains of Blountville, TN; and for his special fur baby, his dog, Lady.
A celebration of life with family and friends will be held Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 2:30pm Blountville Christian Church, 1680 Blountville Blvd., Blountville, TN 37617. Burial with full military honors will take place immediately following the service at Gunning’s Cemetery, 4851 TN-126, Blountville, TN.
