Smithfield – Donald Braxton Barnes, age 90, passed away Sunday April 21, 2019. Born September 9, 1928 in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Lafayette and Nancy Creech Barnes. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes is also preceded in death by his wife, Irene Barnes. A funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home Thursday April 25, 2019 at 11 AM. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Smithfield. Mr. Barnes is survived by sons, Larry Barnes and wife Jean of Smithfield, Bruce Barnes and wife Debbie of Virginia Beach, VA; Sister, Audrey Creech of Smithfield; Granddaughter Lauren Barnes of Smithfield. Mr. Barnes was a member of West Calvary Free Will Baptist, a Navy Veteran, and an avid bluegrass listener and musician.
