    PINE LEVEL—Doris Capps Spicer, age 76, died Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield after a battle with cancer. She was born on April 28, 1941, in Johnston County to the late Kelly and Mildred Collins Capps. A graduate of Pine Level School, she kept close contact with her classmates and enjoyed lifetime friendships with them. Doris was employed by the State of North Carolina for a number of years, serving the NC Forest Service and the NC Department of Justice, and later with the Johnston County Sheriff’s office.

    A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 23, at Selma Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Howard F. Scott of Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery.

    Doris was preceded in death by her daughter, Dot Renfrow Minoia, and is survived by her son, Marvin R. Renfrow, Jr.; brother James (Libby) Capps of Roanoke Rapids; sisters Sarah Ann Jones of Lanexa, VA; and Janie/Susie (Jerry) Price of Pine Knoll Shores. She has five grandchildren: Misty Renfrow of Raleigh; Jason (Marianne) Price of Falls Church, VA; Angela Renfrow of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Amanda and Thomas Minoia of New York City. She also has three great grandchildren: Zack Renfrow, Noah Trigg and Emma Rose Price. She was the widow of Charlie D. Flowers of New Goshen, IN, and they shared a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren in there. She was married to the late Durwood Spicer of Johnston County and maintained contact with his family through Carmen Spicer Marshall. Doris is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins from the Collins family and her neighbors and friends in Pine Level who have been fast friends and a support for her throughout the years.
