Smithfield – Doris Kathryn Jones Ward, age 90, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 in Barbour Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. Born August 7, 1927 in Gaston County she was a daughter of the late Oscar Thompson and Kate Trout Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Garnett Ward. Doris was a member of Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church in Selma.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in Edgerton Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Clay Parker and Rev. Judi Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday just prior the service.
Surviving are her daughters, Donna Ward of Wilson’s Mills, NC and Gail Ward of Eureka, CA; brother, Billy Jones of Virginia; sisters, Carolyn Jones Coffey of Florida and Ruby Jones Harmon of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
