Doris (Dot) Smith Stancil Gebhardt, 92 died on September 14, 2018 in Bradenton, Florida. She was born on March 25, 1926 in Kenly, NC to the late Martha Creech Stancil and the late Albert Stancil. She graduated from Glendale School in 1944. She was the beloved wife of the late Al Gebhardt and the former wife of the late Bill Smith. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Judy Maynard and LaRue Smith; brother Jimmy Stancil; and sister Esther “Pete” Stancil Pittman. Doris is survived by her daughter, Brenda Chalkley; grandchildren Erik Chalkley, Heather Rubio (David), Ian Maynard (Tobin) and Thaddeus Maynard (Jennifer); great grandchildren Lainey, Nixon, Jordyn, Matt, Alex, Malea and Kylie. She also leaves behind her sweet doggie Lola. Doris loved arts and crafts, woodworking, and was an excellent seamstress and a world class shopper and fashionista.
Friends and family may pay their respects at the funeral service officiated by Rev. Daniel Arant on Saturday, October 6, at 11:00 AM at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, 8980 Old Beulah Rd., Kenly, NC. The family will receive friends just prior to the service from 10-11 am.
Donations in Doris’ memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
