Smithfield- Dorothy Pendergraft Batten, age 96, died Friday morning, February 5, 2021 in the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born June 16, 1924 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Daisy Pendergraft. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Batten; grandson, Anthony Scott Penny; brothers, Robert Pendergraft and Floyd Pendergraft; and sisters, Mary Ellen McArtan, Elizabeth Martin, and Gladys Albritton.
A private family graveside will be conducted in the Batten Family Cemetery.
Surviving are her daughters, Jean Penny and husband Dennis of Smithfield, and Brenda Lane and husband Jerry of Goldsboro; sister, Barbara Riley of Winterville; grandsons, Dennis Penny, Jr. and Jonathan David Lane; and great grandchildren, Ambria Lane, Katlyn Lane, and Ansley Lane.
