Benson, NC: Mr. Dudley Watson Lucas, age 97, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Liberty Commons Assisted Living Center in Jacksonville, NC. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, January 29, 2021 at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson. Mr. Hampton Whittington will officiate.
Mr. Lucas was born on May 13, 1923 in Johnston County to the late Dudley Valton and Alice Moore Lucas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Barefoot Lucas. Mr. Lucas was a WWII veteran serving in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater. When he completed his tour of duty he returned to Benson and resumed farming. Mr. Lucas was a member of Benson Baptist Church.
Survived by his daughter, Neta Lucas Grady and husband, Robert of Jacksonville, NC.
Family will receive friends from 12:45PM to 1:45PM at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson prior to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials may be made to Operation Topcat, P.O. Box 922 Sneads Ferry, NC 28460 or to one’s favorite charity.
In accordance with NC-COVID19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Mask are required for all services.
