Durwood “Derby” Lee Dowdy

    Erwin, NC: Mr. Durwood “Derby” Lee Dowdy, age 68, of East I Street, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM-Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Four Oaks. Dr. Elvin Butts and Rev. Keith Rivenbark will officiate. Burial will follow in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield.

    Mr. Dowdy was born on August 23, 1952 in Harnett County to the late Rev. Leon Wilson and Bessie Pearl Ellis Dowdy. He was preceded in death by his son, Travis Gary Conn Pounds; sister and brothers, Woodrow “Woody” Dowdy, Peggy D. Eason, and James Larry Dowdy. Mr. Dowdy was a painter for Wildwoods of Lake Johnson and no stranger to hard work and supported his family for over 40 years. Mr. Dowdy attended Friendly Chapel PFWB Church of Benson.

    Surviving include his wife, Catrina C. Dowdy; children, David Wilson Dowdy and wife, Robin “Kayla” of Coats, Daniel Troy Dowdy and wife, Rebecca “Danielle” of Angier; grandchildren, Layla Pearl Dowdy, Trevor Keith Dowdy, Gregory Lee Dowdy, Zachary Wilson Dowdy; brother, Lewis Dowdy and wife, Katie Jane of Garner; many nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks and other times at the home.

    Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to VICTORY JUNCTION, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, NC 27317 in honor of his love for NASCAR Racing.

    In accordance with NC-COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Masks are required for all services.
