Kenly: Elbert Wayne Gower, 78, passed away Monday evening at home surrounded by his loving family.
Elbert was born in Johnston County on August 9, 1939 to the late Lawrence and Lavina Rowe Gower. He was married to the late Patricia Mitchell Gower. Elbert proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired as a terminal manager with Roadway Express after thirty five years of service.
A private service will be held for the family at the Upper Black Creek Cemetery.
Elbert is survived by his son, Todd Gower and wife Betty of Kenly; daughters, Patti Miller, Pam Hammond and husband Charles and Laurie Dawkins all of Rockingham; brothers, Alton Gower, Jimmy Gower, and Wilton Gower; sisters, Grace Daughtry, Linda Dixon, Kathy Stewart, and Diane Creech; seven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
