    Smithfield – Elizabeth Lawhon Wall, age 79, passed away September 11, 2019 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born May 12, 1940 in Johnston County to the late Alex and Bertha Hughes Lawhon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Wall; and brothers, Richard Lawhon, Robert Lawhon, and James Lawhon. Elizabeth graduated from Parkview Nursing School in Rocky Mount, NC. She spent her working career as a Registered Nurse serving the Johnston and Wake County areas. She worked in Hospitals, Pediatrics, Prisons and Public Health. Her love for children led her to finish out her career at Governor Morehead School. She provided care for many in her lifetime of nursing between patients, family and friends. Upon her retirement she devoted herself to her grandchildren and became an integral part of their lives. Spending countless hours attending and cheering on her grandchildren in soccer, sporting events, dance recitals and school events. She was a very beloved Nana to Sarah and Duncan and enthusiastic in encouraging them to follow their passions and pursuits in life.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2019 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Nowell officiating. Burial will follow in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday just prior to the funeral.
    Surviving are her daughter, Lisa Coffey and husband Tripp of Raleigh; grandchildren, Sarah and Duncan Coffey; siblings, Edna Sykes of Raleigh, Eloise Griffin of Smithfield, Gladys Woodard and husband Robert of Pegram, TN, Connie Breci and husband Tom of Benson, Carolyn Aycock and husband Elton of Princeton, Shirley Sorcic of Princeton, Doris Crews and husband Gene of Willow Spring, Brenda Stroud and husband Terry of Garner, and Frank Lawhon of Smithfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
