Esther Gray Edwards Merrill, age 93, was called home to heaven Monday, October 18, 2021 in WakeMed North Campus in Raleigh. Born February 12, 1928 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late Luby and Eula Creech Edwards, Sr. She was preceded in death by both husbands, James H. Green, Sr. and Paul W. Merrill; brothers, Luby “L.C.” Edwards, Jr., Donald Edwards and Sid Edwards; and sisters, Margaret Murchison and Mary Puckett. Esther worked as a mental health worker for Portsmouth Psychiatric Center in Portsmouth, VA for 8 years.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2021 in Greenlawn Memorial Garden in Chesapeake, VA. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, NC.
Surviving are her son, James “Jimmy” Green, Jr. of Raleigh; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
