Eudelle Hill Brown

    Birth Date: 05/19/1930
    Deceased Date: 08/31/2021

DURHAM – Eudelle Hill Brown passed away peacefully at her home on August 31, 2021 at the age of 91. Born in Smithfield, Eudelle was the daughter of Claude Hill, Jr. and Leona Eason Hill. She met her true love and future husband, Cecil Brown, in Ahoskie in 1952, where she was teaching elementary school. She faced deep adversity in her early 20’s when she was almost killed in an auto accident that left her with a brain injury and in a coma for 30 days. She slowly and miraculously recovered and went on to have two children and earn two master’s degrees. She taught elementary school for 20 years in Raleigh and then turned her sights to adult education. Among her accomplishments were teaching illiterate adults to read, coordinating volunteers at Wake Tech to prepare students to take the GED, and working in the adult education program at Broughton High School. She loved her students and had lasting relationships with many of them, always encouraging them to achieve their goals, and showing her pride in them.

She embodied Christ’s charge to love one another. She was a positive, cheerful person who saw the good in everyone and always had a smile when she greeted you. She was also a very determined person who worked hard and always stylishly stood her ground. Her love was most abundant with her family. She was a great example to her children and deeply cherished her role as grandmother. We all knew how much she loved us and will carry that love in our hearts always. She was loved deeply by her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Cecil (Ben) Brown, Jr. (wife, Elise Brown); her daughter, Pamela Brown Marcom (husband, Dr. Kelly Marcom); grandchildren Samuel Marcom and Sophie Marcom; and step-grandchildren Nigeal Anderson and Travis Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil B. Brown, Sr.; her parents, Claude and Leona Hill; her brother, Marvin E. Hill, and sister-in-law, Mary Frances Hill. The family would like to thank Eudelle’s loving caretakers who became like family, Martha McMillan and Marcell Locklear.
