Eula Jean Daughtry Johnson, age 92, died Saturday afternoon, September 4, 2021 in WakeMed of Raleigh. Born October 12, 1928 in Johnston County to the late Zeb and Ina Ennis Daughtry, she was the widow of Herbert Draper Johnson and was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chastity Jones and all 8 of her siblings. She was a graduate of Smithfield High School where she was the captain of the Girls basketball team. This, in part, fostered a love for all sports especially Tar Heel Basketball. She also enjoyed fishing, puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. During most of her life she farmed alongside her husband. When her children were older, she worked in the Smithfield Elementary School Cafeteria until she retired
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Yelverton Grove FWB Church, where she was a long-time member, with the Rev. Joe Ballance officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. just prior to the service.
Surviving are her son, Ronnie Johnson and wife Julie of Selma; daughters, Gail Coats and husband Chuck of Clayton, Debbie Jones and husband Ronnie of Four Oaks and Trish Durant and companion, Ralph Eicher of Surf City; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and beloved dog, Prince.
