Smithfield – Evangeline Gail Pope, age 80, passed away Thursday October 22, 2020 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. She was born in Johnston County on April 5, 1940 to the late George and Patty Little Pender. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home on Monday October 26, 2020 at 12 PM. The family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home from 11 AM to 12 PM. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.
Mrs. Pope is survived by husband of 62 ½ years, George Pope Sr.; Son, George Pope Jr., and wife Crystal of Smithfield; Daughter, Amanda Pope of Smithfield; Sisters, Glenda Daughtry of Princeton, Brenda Sheets of Selma; Grandchildren, Heather Johnson and husband Matthew of Kenly, Ashley Waters and husband Matthew of Smithfield, Mikayla Pope of Greenville; Great grandchildren, Adalynn Gail Waters and Landon Pope Johnson.
She was also a member of the Selma Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Pope served as cafeteria manager of Smithfield Middle School for twenty three years. She enjoyed cooking, swimming, playing piano, going to the beach and spending time with her family. Mrs. Pope loved to serve people, her church, and The Lord.
