Frederick Lester Jones

    Frederick “Fred” Lester Jones completed his journey home Monday morning to the welcoming words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

    Frederick was born in Johnston County on March 26, 1934 to the late Johnny and Flonnie Willoughby Jones. Frederick answered the call on his life to preach and served in ministry for over 58 years with the North Carolina Conference of Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a member of the Kenly Pentecostal Holiness Church.

    Frederick was an unusually fine man. He was loved by his family, for whom he was a source of joy and strength, but also by countless others, from old friends to new acquaintances, all of whom were struck by his quiet generosity, his kind and unassuming intelligence, and his innate courteousness. He cherished his wife and was role model to his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.

    A service to celebrate the Christian life of Frederick will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Kenly Funeral Service with the Bishop Danny Nelson and Rev. Phillip Lewis officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be Friday, September 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jones Family Cemetery.

    Frederick is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Gaynelle Davis Jones; sons, Stan Jones and wife Debbie of Sims and Tim Jones and wife Lauren of Kenly; daughter, Angela Jones of Kenly; grandchildren, Jeramy Jones, Katherine Tevepaugh, Kimberly Tevepaugh and Mindy Morris; and four great grandchildren.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Rudolph, Alton and Raeford; and his grandson, Jonathan Jones.
