Gary Ray Jackson, age 72, of Selma, passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 25, 2020. Born in Harnett County on June 9, 1948, he was the son of the late Roy C. and Ludie Godwin Jackson. Gary serviced in the US Army during the Vietnam War as an MP. A longtime resident of Selma, he was the manager for Heilig-Meyers Furniture Store for 27 years. Gary was very active in Selma, being a former Town Councilman, serving on various Advisory Boards and the Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Selma American Legion and the Selma VFW. Gary was a member of Whitley Memorial United Methodist Church in Smithfield. His favorite pastime was working on his golf game.
A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery in Dunn.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Hobbs Jackson; his son Jeffrey Jackson and wife Jamie and their son Elliott Jackson, all of Apex; and his brothers, Wayne Jackson and wife Catherine, Linwood Jackson and wife Kay, all of Dunn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whitley Memorial United Methodist Church, 300 Wilson Mills Rd., Smithfield, NC 27577 or to a charity of choice.
