George Herbert Braswell, age 97, of Smithfield passed away on February 16, 2018 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born in Johnston County on July 4, 1920, he was the son of the late Andrew and Minnie Woodard Braswell. Mr. Braswell was preceded in death by two wives, Johnnie Lee Peedin Braswell and Lydia Earp Braswell. Mr. Braswell served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 19, at 12:00 noon in the Princeton Church of God with burial following in the Princeton Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 11-12 noon.
Surviving are three daughters, Gwendolyn Rogers and husband Donnie of Princeton, Anita Ratliff and husband Robert of Knightdale, Donna Stephenson of Wendell; three grandchildren, Robbie Ratliff IV and wife Angel, Amanda James and Brian Stephenson; two step-grandchildren, Heather Rogers and Heidi Leonard; three great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.
