    SMITHFIELD – George William “Bill” Wilkins, age 87, died Saturday morning at his home. Born April 30, 1934 in Guilford County, he was a son of the late James Ruffin and Helen Virginia Rule Wilkins and was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother. Bill was a longtime member of Sharon Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon for several years, but had recently moved his membership to Pisgah Baptist Church. He was a US Air Force veteran of 21 years and was a member of the Smithfield American Legion Post 132.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive family & friends from 2:00 – 3:00 just prior to the service. Burial, with military honors, will be held at a later date in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro.

    Surviving are his wife, Ola Jean Barnes Wilkins; children, Tina Marie Wilkins Whichard and husband Gary of Pikeville, Robert Edward Wilkins and wife Diana of Pikeville and Paul Lee Wilkins and wife Angie of Smithfield; brother, Jerry Lee Wilkins of Fayetteville, AR; six grandchildren, Devon Summerlin (Chris), Preston Wilkins, Kelsey Wilkins, Jarad Wilkins, Joseph Alvarado and Brandon Roland and two great grandsons, Wayde Peele and Jayden MacLean.

    In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.
