Selma – Harold Futrell, age 74, passed away Thursday May 20, 2021 at Duke Raleigh Hospital. He was born in Sampson County on January 24, 1947 to the late Hubert Lawrence and Essie Jordan Futrell. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers, Thomas, Bobby and Charles Futrell; sister, Eva Capps.
A funeral service will be held on Monday May 24, 2021 at Divine Crossings Baptist Church in Selma at 2 PM. Burial will follow the service at Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at the church from 1 PM to 2 PM on Monday.
Mr. Futrell is survived by wife of 36 years, Kay Batten Futrell of the home; step daughter, Kimberly Brantley and husband James of Clayton; step son, Jeremy Deans and wife April of Garner ;brothers, Perry Futrell of Garner, Hubert Futrell of Clayton, Glenn Futrell of Carry, Stanley Futrell of Newton Grove; sisters, Stella Christensen of Eastover, Linda Faye Tart of Clinton, Mary Tew of St. Paul’s, Marie Williams of Smithfield, Kathy Futrell of Selma; grandchildren, Mollie Brantley, Emilee Brantley, Harrison Deans, Turner Deans, Hayden Deans. Mr. Futrell was a charter member at Divine Crossings Baptist Church and was involved with activities in the church such as working in the nursery, deacon, and being the president of the corporation. He enjoyed being and outside working in his garden and spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Boompa”.
