    Harvey S Evans Jr.

    Harvey went to his heavenly reward on July 4th,2018 surrounded by family. The world lost a great patriot on a day that he was proud of. He loved his country very much.
    He was born in Black Creek, NC on August 29, 1927 to Harvey S Evans and Rosa C Evans.
    Harvey was a veteran of the Korean conflict and obtained the rank of S/Sgt. After the military, he worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co for many years. His duties took him from Wilson to Rockingham, Williamsburg, Va., Charlotte, and ultimately to Smithfield in 1965. He left Goodyear in 1972 to start Evans Tire and Automotive. He retired in 2005.
    He was an active Mason in Fellowship Lodge #84 in Smithfield. He served as Master twice, Past Deputy Grand Master and was the Secretary for over 25 years. Harvey recently received his 50 year certificate and Pin.
    He was a member of Pou-Parrish Post #132 American Legion where he served as commander for two years and Athletic Officer of the American Legion Baseball team for many years. He and his wife Jean enjoyed working with the young men, traveling with them to wherever they were playing.
    He was preceded in death by his wife Jean of 63 years.
    He is survived by a son Timothy K Evans and wife Debbie of Smithfield, Grandson, Nicholas K Evans of Dunn. A sister Alice Bass and husband Leo of Lucama, sister-in-laws La Vonne Deaver of Virginia and Josephine Hinton of Wilson, NC along with several nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service will be at First Baptist Church in Smithfield Saturday July 7th at noon, followed by Masonic Burial Ceremonies at Sunset Memorial Park at 2:00pm.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be given to First Baptist Church in Smithfield, Ministry Center Building Fund, 202 S 4th St, Smithfield, NC 27577 or the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
