Helen Woodruff Stallings

    Helen Geraldine Woodruff Stallings passed away on January 12, 2021 at the age of 91. Helen was born December 31, 1929 in Johnston County to the late Benjamin Franklin Woodruff and Lula McCall Woodruff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Vernon Franklin Stallings, Jr., “Frankie”; granddaughter, Jaime Shipp Stallings; sister, Ethel Woodruff Sullivan; and brothers, Alton, Elmon, Franklin, Glenn, Ivan Earl, Leon, and Warren Woodruff.

    Helen graduated from Selma High School where she enjoyed playing on the women’s basketball team. She was always very active and enjoyed being outdoors. She worked at Selma Elementary for 30 years with most of her career as secretary. After retirement, Helen enjoyed spending time with family and friends and continued to spend as much time as possible outdoors working in her yard.

    Helen is survived by her son, Ray Stallings (Brenda); granddaughter, Erin Ruppe (John Paul); great-granddaughters, Hayden Stallings, Abigail Ruppe, and Aubrey Ruppe; great-great granddaughter, Eleanor Norris; and sisters, Faye Woodruff Newsome and Sue Woodruff Blake (Ray) as well as several nieces and nephews.

    The family is very appreciative of the care provided to Helen by Debbie Day, Rhonda Wilkins, and Denise Daughtry.

    A graveside service, followed by interment, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 15, at the Brown-McCall family cemetery, SR 1938, 1/4 mile from Hwy. 39. The family requests masks be worn.
