Hilda Blackmon Worsham, 92 of Smithfield, NC passed from this earthly life into her eternal home as her three sons loved and comforted her, on April 22, 2018. The family would like to thank the medical staff of Johnston Health, and Dr. Eric Janis, for their loving care. Hilda was the daughter of Julius Lester Blackmon and Pauline Lee Blackmon. Some of her fondest memories included extended family from Four Oaks, NC, as well as her close friends from Four Oaks High School.
Upon graduation from Watts Hospital School of Nursing in Durham, NC, she embarked on her long nursing career at Watts Hospital and Duke Medical Center in Durham. It was in Durham that she met Bill and were married in 1948. From 1955 – 1968 she practiced nursing at Johnston Memorial Hospital and in private duty nursing. From there, her passion for children led her to become the first School Nurse Coordinator for Johnston County.
In Smithfield, Hilda was a devoted servant of First Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon, loved her Circle, faith, and fellowship. Hilda loved nothing more than sharing food and fellowship and friends, and speaking of food, it was around their kitchen table that she and Bill welcomed countless conversations over delicious home cooked meals.
Hilda is survived by three sons, Billy Worsham and his wife Vicki of Blowing Rock, NC, and Al Worsham of Smithfield, NC, and Bob Worsham of Smithfield, NC; four grandchildren Graham Worsham and his wife Jaime of Charleston, SC, Eleanor Worsham of Austin, TX, Alan Worsham of Salt Lake City, UT, and Meredith Worsham of Benson, NC. Also surviving is her sister, Grace McLamb of Four Oaks, NC, and he brother Tom Blackmon of Bonita, CA.
The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church – Smithfield, NC at 10:00 am Friday, April 27, 2018 for visitation, followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
