Hilda Louise Rowe Raper, 93, of Zebulon, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2020. In addition to her loving parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilbert Raper; sister, Laura Rowe Jones; and brother, James Ray Rowe.
Hilda was born on December 1, 1926 to James Boyd and Ettie Creech Rowe in the Boone Hill Township of Johnston County. Hilda is survived by her sons, James Robert (Orlena) Raper and Michael Wayne (Becky) Raper; grandsons, Robbie (Rachel) Raper, Joseph (Kelly) Raper and Brandon Raper; and great- grandchildren, Gracie, Kaylene, Liza and Jacob. In addition, Hilda is survived by her siblings, Gertrude Narron, Ann Abel (Lee), Linwood Rowe (Sylvia), Faye Paterson and Dwight Rowe.
Hilda’s career in retail began with Woolworth in Newport News, Virginia. At the time of her retirement, she worked with Variety Wholesale at Super Dollar in Kenly, North Carolina. After retirement, she spent several years loving on the babies in her home daycare. Hilda loved baseball, especially her Braves, reading, putting puzzles together and working on word searches. As a farmer’s daughter, she was always concerned about the crops growing in the fields.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Fellowship United Methodist Church in Kenly, North Carolina on Saturday, February 22, 2020. A graveside ceremony will immediately follow. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service.
