Birth Date: 11/10/1944
Deceased Date: 03/13/2021
Ian Campbell McIntyre, age 76, formerly of Durham NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 13, 2021 surrounded in love by his children. He was born in Toronto, Canada to his parents Archibald Campbell McIntyre and Lucy McLeod McIntyre. After attaining the rank of Queen Scout and graduating high school, Ian moved south to attend Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC and earned a BA. Later he became a Freemason and was a brother in the Phalanx Masonic Lodge in Charlotte, NC.
Ian was an avid reader and voraciously studied philosophy, history and religion. He prided himself on being able to converse on any topic for twenty minutes and he never shied away from a debate. Ian was dedicated to family genealogy and was a great resource for the next generation following in his footsteps. Ian was also a founding member of the Loch Norman Scottish Games and instilled the love of his Scottish roots with his family.
He will be remembered for the love he had for his family (local and extended), his brilliant mind and love of genealogy. He was always keen to share family stories and it gave him great happiness to know that his efforts are being carried on by others.
He is survived by his loving children, Eve McIntyre Pilkington (Thomas) and Glenn Gordon McIntyre (Tricia). Ian adored his 3 grandsons Luke Thomas Pilkington, Ethan Campbell McIntyre and Ashton Curtis McIntyre. He will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Michelle McIntyre and his many nieces, nephews and cousins living in NC, SC and Canada. We know he is now with his beloved parents and his brothers Gordon (Skip) McIntyre and Robert (Bob) McIntyre and Robert’s beloved wife, Louana.
The family would like to express our sincerest thanks for the kindness and compassion given by the nursing and administrative team at the Brian Center Clayton and Community Home Care & Hospice.
Following Ian’s request, there will be no memorial service, but the family wants to thank everyone for their continued love and support. Should you like to make a memorial contribution in his name, please send it to the American Cancer Society.
