Selma – James Edward Deaver, age 84 passed away Friday November 8, 2019 in Rocky Mount, NC. Born in Johnston County July 23, 1935 to the late Dill and Catherine Carter Deaver. In addition to his parents Mr. Deaver is also preceded in death by brothers, Thurman, Carl and John Deaver; Sisters, Leona Stallings, Vincey Black and Marry Young. A grave side service will be conducted 3 PM Wednesday November 13, 2019 at Selma Memorial Gardens. Mr. Deaver is survived Wife, Patricia Deaver; Daughters, Shelga Barfield and husband Darrell of Sharpsburg, Charlene Vasquez and husband Lou of Maryland, Jamie Durkin and husband John of Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Deaver was a United States Army and Air Force veteran serving in the Korean and Vietnam War. He was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Smithfield, as well as a former Branch president of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Dunn. In his spare time Mr. Deaver enjoyed playing lead guitar in country music groups across the country. He was a dedicated man to God, his country, and family.
