James “J.R.” Adcock

    James R. “J.R.” Adcock Sr., 88 of Selma, NC passed away on Thursday, November 30,2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC following an illness. Mr. Adcock was a retired Staff Sergeant from the United States Army and a Korean War Veteran. After his military retirement, he continued his public service employed with the North Carolina Department of Correction as a Correctional Officer at Central Prison in Raleigh, NC and Johnston Correctional Institution in Smithfield, NC where he retired in 1991.

    Mr. Adcock is survived by a son, James R. Adcock, Jr. and wife Linda of Pine Level, NC, a daughter Norma Jean Adcock of Selma, NC, two grandchildren, Pete Turner of Lucama, NC, Brittany Adcock of Garner, NC, and two great-grandchildren, Damien and Kalby Turner of Lucama,NC.

    Mr. Adcock’s family extends their gratitude to Georgia “Bunnie” Lassiter for her many years of loyalty and commitment to their father’s well being. Her unconditional kindness will forever be treasured.

    Mr. Adcock loved his family unconditionally whether they were blood related, extended or otherwise. He welcomed you with open arms and always offered a coke and nabs!

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Grant Staubs officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday just prior to the service and all other times at 107 James Drive Pine Level, NC.

    In lieu of flowers the family request donations to a charity that was close to Mr. Adcock’s heart, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
