Benson – James Alex “Jim” Coates, age 50, died Monday, July 10, 2017 in UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. Born October 3, 1966 in Cumberland County he was the son of Bonnie Jones Coates of Godwin, NC. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Benson. Jim enjoyed hunting and went every chance he got. He also enjoyed cars and was an avid Mopar fan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. C.H. Lee and Rev. Mike Hall officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday just prior to the service.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Ann Coates of the home; mother-in-law, Bonnie Godwin of Selma; sister-in-law, Donna Godwin of Selma; aunt, Linda Jones; special cousins, Rhonda Smith, Susan Daleke, and Shannon Jones; special friends, Ray and Tonya Gist and their children, Lana and Carson, and Jeff and Gina Thompson and their daughter, Jessica; and canine companion, Nitro.
