James Ralph Griffin, age 80, of Smithfield passed away Thursday evening at his home on May 21, 2020. He was born on July 21, 1939 in Johnston County. He was the son of the late Killer K. Griffin and Martha Sanders Music. James was preceded in death by his sister Minnie Carol Grice.
A graveside service will be conducted 3 PM Sunday May 24, 2020 at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may come to pay their respects Sunday May 24, 2020 from 12 PM to 2 PM at Parrish Funeral Home
James was a longtime member of Pisgah Baptist Church. He was a retired Master Chief Boatswain’s Mate in the United States Coast Guard. James enjoyed helping with Disaster Relief and many other mission efforts.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elgie Jernigan Griffin, and his children: James and Carol Griffin of Vero Beach, FL, Wendy and Ricky Creech of Selma, NC, Cindy and Jim Casson of Kenly, NC, Pam and Lacy Adams of Selma, NC. Nine grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. His siblings Myrtle and Tom Toole of Smithfield, NC, Martha Pelliter of Smithfield, NC, Jimmie Griffin and Adelia of Benson, NC, Lillian and John Varn of Cresent City, FL. His In-laws: Hilda and Evertte Whitly of Havelock, NC, Bernie and the late Judy Pearce of Selma, NC, and many loved nieces and nephews.
