Janet Powell Hinton, age 63, of Smithfield, passed away Saturday, June 17th after fighting a courageous battle with melanoma cancer. Janet was raised in Channelview, Texas to Vivian Powell Wall and William Harold Powell. She is survived by her husband, Trey Hinton and two daughters, Christy Kahrig (Kevin) and Rhonda Ashby (Major, United States Army (R), Randy); four grandchildren; sister, Pat Baber; brother, Steve Powell; stepfather, Sam Wall; and beloved friend, Tina Grady.
Janet was well known as a master chef having worked in many capacities in the food industry. She is famous for her original cheesecake recipe and many other delectable foods. She had a deep love for all animals and will be greatly missed by her two rescue boxers and her cat.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1st, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Millbrook Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC with Rev. Rebecca Hewitt-Newson officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. just prior to the service.
