Smithfield – Javis Erwin Blackmon, age 84, died Friday, September 22, 2017 in the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born June 2, 1933 in Selma, NC, he was a son of the late Plato Thompson and Omega Yelverton Blackmon, he was preceded in death by his only child, Dwayne Erwin Blackmon. Javis was also preceded in death by his brothers, Rudolph Blackmon, Robert Blackmon and Plato Thompson Blackmon, Jr. and sisters, Mary Elizabeth McCabe and Janice Jackson. Mr. Blackmon worked with the Coca Cola Company for more than 45 years as a service manager.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilbur Horrell officiating. Burial, will military honors, will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
Surviving are his wife Barbara Blackmon; brother, Massey Billy Blackmon of Knightdale and sister, Rebecca Sue Lee of Four Oaks.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.
