Benson, NC: Mr. Jerry Thomas Coats, Sr. age 70, of 211 West Hill Street died Friday, March 1, 2019, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral Service will be held 3:30 PM Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Glenn McCullen will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson, NC.
Mr. Coats was born on March 8, 1948 in Wake County to the late Duncan S. Sr., and Esther Ivey Coats. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Judy Coats; and brothers, Duncan Stewart Coats, Jr. and Jackie Coats. Mr. Coats was a dedicated and compassionate funeral director with Rose and Graham Funeral Home for many years. He was also a member of Benson PFWB Church.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Joyce Morgan Coats; children and spouses, Amy and Eric Fann of Benson, Tommy and Tara Coats of Carrollton, VA, Joy and Kelly Pollard of Benson; grandchildren and spouses, Justin and Ashley Huff of Four Oaks, Sarah and Adam Caldwell of Benson, Hunter and Tawny Coats of Surry, VA, Brynn and Madison Fann of Raleigh, Emily Huff of Benson, Hayden and Jaci Coats of Windsor, VA, Haleigh Coats of Carrollton, VA, Eric Reyes and Kiley Reyes both of Benson; great-grandchildren, Avery Coats, Weston Coats, Grady Coats and Baby Braston Thomas Caldwell due in June; sisters, Barbara Rice of Katy, TX and Becky Bland of Clinton; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, 2:00 PM – 3:15PM at the church prior to the service and other times at the home.
