Jimmie Carlton Denton passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 16, 2017. He was a devoted husband of 60 years, father, granddaddy, Pops, Papa and friend to all. He loved everyone and was an inspiration to anyone that knew him. He always put others first. Jimmie was a great man of God and a deacon in his church, Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church of Middlesex. There is no doubt Heaven now has a grand piano player. God gave him a remarkable gift of music and now he has the opportunity to honor his Father in the Heavenly Choir. Jimmie loved his church family, and played the piano at Lee’s Chapel for 45 years. He loved his family with all his heart and soul. He will be missed by all. Jimmie served in the US Navy. He was employed with Capital Chevrolet (formerly Triangle Chevrolet, Bobby Murray Chevrolet) and was recently honored for 50 years of service. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Pauline Denton, and sister, Dixie Barnes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017 in Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Crowe and Rev. Joel Story officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Sue Denton; children, Tim Denton (Kim), Carla Batten (Randy), Kim Overman (Paul), Debbie Strickland (Ricky), and Amy Waddell (Greg); brother, Johnnie B. Denton; and grandchildren, Emily Surles (Robert), Crystal Wright (Brittany), Tara Strickland, Garrett Strickland (Rachel), Ethan Overman, Haley Overman, Lukas Overman, Samantha Waddell, Jessica Waddell, Chase Waddell, and Trista Waddell.
