Princeton – Joseph Leon Norris, 82, went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Born October 8, 1935 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Willie T. and Sally Jones Norris. He was preceded in death by a son, Marshall Norris; and sister, Claire Norris Mullis. Leon was a member of Selma Church of God of Prophecy. Leon was a loving husband, father and grandfather affectionately known as “Pa.” He had a love for traveling and good eating. In his earlier years Leon worked as a Ferrier and blacksmith. Leon worked 21 years for Jones Brothers Furniture before working for the Town of Smithfield where he retired. He had a strong grip and a love for Christ.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2018 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Stewart and Rev. Curtis Stump officiating. Burial will follow in Bizzell Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday just prior to the service.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Alice Taylor Norris; sons, Mike Norris of Princeton and Jeff Norris and wife Leigh Ann of Smithfield; daughter, Cindy Holcomb and husband Tom of Kenly; daughter-in-law, Wanda Norris of Rockingham; brothers, Thomas Pittman, David Norris, and John Norris; sisters, Jean Hill and Libby Barnes; grandchildren, Brent Norris, Marcus Norris and wife Deidre, Allison Holcomb, and Sydney Norris; and great grandchildren, Noelle Norris, Harper Norris, and Cooper Hogan.
