Joyce Elaine Wilson, 73, of Garner, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at UNC Wayne Health Care surrounded by her family. She was born December 7, 1947 in Halifax County, Virginia to the late Gus Tavis Talley and Norma Jean Elliott Talley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Jean Edwards.
Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, there will be a celebration of life at a later date.
She is survived by son, Johnny West Butler of Colorado Spring, Colorado; daughters, Sonya Butler (and Leroy) of Pikeville and Patricia Stone of Goldsboro; brother, Michael Talley; granddaughters, Christina Carter (Brooks) and Amaris Lawrence; grandsons, Ridge and Ryan Dzinbal; and great grandchildren, Camden and Emersyn Carter.
Joyce spent her career in Human resources at K-Mart in Garner where every customer and employee became a friend. After retirement, Joyce dedicated her time to taking care of children. She was known as “Granny” to many children, their families, and a community that loved her.
