Judy Johnson Mozingo, 80, of Kenly, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at UNC Johnston Health Care in Smithfield. Judy was born in Johnston County on November 15, 1940 to the late Herbert E. V. Johnson and Louise Casey Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Dan Johnson and Steve Johnson.
Judy was a 1959 graduate of Princeton High School and 1962 graduate of Rex Hospital School of Nursing. She received Santa Filomena Nursing Honors 1960-1962 and the Ideal Nurse Rand Award for the 1962 graduation class. Upon graduation she worked at Rex Hospital several years until the family moved to Suffolk, Virginia, where she worked at Louise Obici Hospital a few years and then Lakeview Medical Center for 26 years before retirement. She was a member of Princeton Baptist Church and served on many committees, taught Sunday school, worked with children and youth groups, and the women’s ministry at her churches in Raleigh, NC, and Suffolk, VA. She loved working with her flowers and enjoyed the beauty God created in them. She was a loving, caring, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and nurse. ALWAYS THINKING OF OTHERS FIRST. She will be truly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Judy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Roy Walton Mozingo; son, R. W. Mozingo II and wife, Laura of Olathe, Kansas; daughter, Karen Mozingo Collings and husband, Richard of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, (R. W.’s children) Alec Mozingo (Kaitlyn), Tessa Mozingo, Trinity Mozingo, Nic Mozingo, Gabe Mozingo, Katherine Mozingo, Calvin Mozingo, (Karen’s children) Kimberly Oliver and Brianna Oliver; great grandchildren, (R. W.’s grandchildren) Benson and Madi Mae Mozingo; brothers, Robert Johnson and wife, Patsy of Pittsboro, NC, and Larry Johnson and wife, Carolyn of Pittsboro, NC; sister, Faye Painter of Asheboro, NC, many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Judy and Ed Little.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations, 105 E. 1st St., Princeton, NC 27569.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home and Cremations 105 E. 1st St., Princeton, NC 27569 with Reverend Dwayne Batten, and Reverend Eugene Worley officiating. A committal service will follow at Hephzibah Baptist Church Cemetery, 4633 US Hwy 70 E., Princeton, NC 27569
The family request masks be worn while with the family during services.
