Kenly – Karen Ernestine Runyon Hopkins, age 70, left this world to be with her
father in Heaven on November 3, 2018. Born July 1, 1948 in Delbarton, WV to
the late Elva and Norma Blankenship Runyon, she was preceded in death by a son,
Stephen Kennedy, her step-mother, Christina Runyon; brothers, William Runyon,
Elva Ray Runyon and Wilkie May and sisters, Gloria Stone, Joyce
Mitchell and Mary Smith. Karen lived a very full life, surrounded by lots of loving
family and friends, who just adored her. She was a kind soul that loved to laugh
and put a smile on another’s face. Karen had a big heart and was always there to
help out in a time of need. She was always full of spunk and loved to share her
passion for reading.
A memorial service will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, November 10, 2018, in
the meeting room of the Sleep Inn of Smithfield. The family will receive friends
following the service until 2:00 p.m.
Surviving are her husband Wayne Hopkins; daughter, Norma Clark and Terry of
Raleigh; step-son, Autry Hopkins of Wilson; step-daughter, Tracy Cook and Jerry
of Wilson; brothers, Sam Runyon of Smithfield; sisters, Betty Blair of Kentucky,
Jean Arko of Phoenix, AZ, and Lana Hundley and Martha Runyon both of
Huntington, WV; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
