Smithfield – Katie Williford Pilkington, affectionately known as ‘Mega” and Mrs. Katie, passed away Friday December 18, 2020 at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh.
She was born in Johnston County on July 26, 1932 to the late Braxton and Callie Massengill Williford. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Pilkington of Smithfield; several sisters, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Cooper and husband Richard of Smithfield; sister, Susie Allen of Four Oaks; grandsons, Chase Cooper and wife Miranda of Princeton, Christian Cooper of Smithfield; and a newly born great granddaughter, Brynlee Kate Cooper.
A graveside service will be conducted in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield at 3 PM on Tuesday December 22, 2020 with Rev. Brian Davis, Rev. Matt Cornett and Dr. Croom officiating. The family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home from 7 PM to 9 PM on Monday December 21, 2020.
Mrs. Pilkington was a charter member of Unity Free Will Baptist Church. She was named Legal Secretary of the year for the state of North Carolina as well as Legal Secretary of the year for Johnston County. She was the recipient of the Leading with the Heart Award for Johnston County Schools twice. In her spare time she enjoyed going to the beach with her family, watching and feeding the birds, spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren who were the apple of her eye.
