Keith Hill, 87, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017. He was born January 27, 1930, and raised on Brogden Road of Smithfield where he lived a long, and very full life. He is survived by his wife, Jan Hill, two daughters, Angela Whitfield (husband Richard Whitfield), Melody Winters, two granddaughters, Brooke Whitfield, Caroline Boyette (husband Mitch Boyette), and sister LaRue Edwards.
He was most recently known to the community as a farmer of many trades. His wealth of knowledge in farming is known not only in his community but state-wide. His earlier years were spent farming tobacco, but perhaps what he is most well known for is his 25 plus years spent farming strawberries and running “Hill’s Peach & Berry Farm,” also known as, “Jan’s Strawberries” alongside his wife. Keith received many esteemed awards for his work including Conservation Farm Family and North Carolina’s Strawberry Association Grower of the Year Award.
Keith was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. In his earlier years, he also enjoyed building his own planes and flying them. He was a lifetime member of Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church where he grew up.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11AM, Parrish Funeral Home with visitation prior at 10AM. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
