Landis G. Jones, 79, of Smithfield, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017. Mr. Jones was born in Johnston County on December 12, 1938, son of George Minson and Vertie Jordan Jones. “Jones” as he was known, worked many years at Smithfield Gulf Station before it’s closing, and then at Collier’s Car Care as a mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Jones, and by his brothers, Thurman Jones and Melton Jones.
Surviving are his daughter Angie Mitchell (Jamie) of Smithfield;
son, Stevie Jones (Marti) of Pikeville; sister, Linda Franz; sisters in law, Shirley Eason and Kaye Allen; grandchildren, Dallas Jones, Dakota Jones, Blake Mitchell, and Brittany Mitchell; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial service at Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens near Four Oaks will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.
Underwood Funeral Home in Smithfield is assisting the family.
